Pirates Top Giants 6-5 For 5th Straight Win

Fresh off their ugly four-game sweep against the Phillies, the San Francisco Giants will attempt to regroup in Pittsburgh when they open a new weekend series against the Pirates.

Pittsburgh games have a 19-13-5 over/under record so far in 2018. The Giants will give the starting nod to 25-year old left-hander Andrew Suarez, and the Pirates will counter with 26-year old right-hander Jameson Taillon.

Taillon is 0-3 in five starts since his gem April 8, when he threw a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Taillon has faced the Giants only twice, and they weren't pretty starts.

The Pirates scored four runs in 1 ⁄3 innings on consecutive nights off of their former closer Watson, his ERA rising to 2.65. Pittsburgh ranks sixth in the Majors with a.264 average against left-handed pitching, so I expect some runs against the lefty Suarez, and the over is 6-0 in their last six games against a left-handed starter.

Felipe Vazquez (2-0) earned the win - and effectively saved it for himself - in a 35-pitch, five-out outing after George Kontos allowed the tying run in the eighth.

Giants: RHP Chris Stratton (3-3, 4.60) is to start Monday at home against Cincinnati.

The Pirates had homered nine times in three games and 12 times in five contests, and the Giants had given up 20 homers in 11 games and 15 homers during their six-game losing streak. The Giants have been outscored 35-9 in his losses. The over has cashed in seven of those games, compared to 12 that've hit the under against righties. The over has hit in five of those games, as opposed to zero that've gone under. National League Central and over is 10-4 in San Francisco last 14 overall and over is 10-4 in San Francisco last 14 on grass.

Pirates: RHP Joe Musgrove (strained right shoulder) pitched 5 2/3 no-hit innings in a rehab start at Triple-A Indianapolis. His team-leading eighth home run of the year halved the deficit, and former Pirate Alen Hanson evened the game at 2-2 with a one-out solo shot into the right field bleachers.
