Tiger Woods confirms entry to 2018 Open at Carnoustie

Pausing for effect, before flashing a smile, the former world No.1 - who has confirmed he will play at the British Open in Carnoustie in July - said: "I'm definitely not against that". Follow along to find out.

Two-time champion Woods posted the best score of his star grouping with Mickelson and Rickie Fowler, with all three players struggling to keep their balls on dry land over the closing holes - with Mickelson dropping seven shots in a damaging four-hole stretch from the 14th.

"I wouldn't say it's gravy, but it's unbelievable", Woods said. "I'm really happy with it".

The real fireworks were happening on other parts of the course as Woods and Mickelson cleaned up their respective messes on the final hole: Sergio Garcia doing Sergio Garcia at TPC Sawgrass things, Patrick Cantlay reminding us that he might in fact be a superstar, Steve Stricker (!) trying to lead alone.

Irish golfer Pádraig Harrington sparked the speculation after suggesting the American needs to play more if he is to stand a chance at The Open. Feel like I'm putting well.

It's reported by respected Irish golf journalist Brian Keogh in today's Irish Independent that the 14-time major victor could touch down in Donegal to tee it up just two weeks before the Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Woods clipped Mickelson by shooting an even-par 72 to Lefty's 79 (!), which means the all-time record between those two when playing in the same group is now even (15-15-3). After hooking an iron off the tee into the water, Woods took a penalty drop and flew the green from 270 yards out.

China's aircraft carrier begins sea trials
The CNN report also pointed out that the vessel passing its sea trials, does not necessarily mean it is combat-ready. The new aircraft carrier has an inclined ramp and can accommodate more aircraft than its predecessor.

Woods and Mickelson rarely played together on Thursdays and Fridays in their heyday, with tournament organizers keeping them apart to spread their top talent across the TV schedules.

"I'd love to play Carnoustie again as I played there in the Scottish Open in 1995 and in 1999 in The Open", he said.

Fowler, who teed off just in front of Mickelson on the hole, didn't do any better, also hitting his tee shot into the drink en route to a double of his own. If that number goes up too much more, Woods will be watching the island hole on his TV this weekend like the rest of us.

"I just kind of ran out at the end", he said.

Jordan Spieth won last year's event at Royal Birkdale.

Kim, who past year was the youngest victor of the Players, joined legendary Jack Nicklaus as the first player since Nicklaus in 1977 to shoot an equal defending champion low first round of 67. "We're going to have good greens and I know that the three of us, Phil, Tiger and myself, we'll be able to go out and start building some momentum together".
