BioWare Wants to Solve the Problem of Multiplayer Storytelling in 'Anthem'

We expect to hear more details on EA's future game plans at its EA Play event in June. With microtransactions nearly certainly finding their way into games like Anthem and the upcoming Battlefield title, EA puts less emphasis on total game sales than it did in the past - instead, cultivating a community of players into recurrent spenders now drives revenue. He said, "specifically, I like to be the one making choices in my story-if it's multiplayer, won't the story get watered down?"

Anthem is BioWare (but mostly EA's) answer to shared world shooters like The Division and the Destiny series, and takes place on a hostile world where humanity is confined to a single city.

According to Hudson since Anthem is a BioWare game, the players should feel like the hero of the story, and that the story is about them.

The game offers a co-op for up to four players wishing to plunge into the living, dynamic world.

I talked last time about Anthem being "a story you can experience with friends".

The Meridian plant in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, also supplies other automakers, but it's not clear yet how wide the impact will be. Buyers of Ford pickups also tend to be a loyal bunch, so the carmaker could also see sales pushed forward a month or two.

Interestingly, we also get a tease. Hudson said this narrative approach hasn't been executed well in multiplayer games before.

During their most recent financial earnings call, EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen mentioned a concrete release window for Anthem.

Interestingly, creative director Mike Laidlaw confirmed a new Dragon Age game was in development a year ago.

EA is a "learning company" after all. Sometimes they are fictional characters, like in Mass Effect and Dragon Age. In it, he presents the new mission statement by which all games will be developed.

"Looking forward, we will continue our aggressive pace of innovation through experiences that capitalize on our technology, network and creativity". We'll be sharing details on how it works very soon. But with the multiplayer aspect seeming to hang around every new game released by EA as of late, fans will at least be pleased to be reassured by Hudson that just because Anthem's storytelling may be different, it doesn't mean it will be the same for all their games. "To accommodate that, we are moving the launch date for this project into FY19".
