Google said it had improved the natural sound of the Assistant's voice, and will roll out six new voices later this year - including one provided by singer John Legend.

Google put the spotlight on its artificial intelligence smarts at its annual developers' conference Tuesday, announcing new consumer features aimed at simplifying your life.

"We really want to work hard to get this right", said Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who kicked off the conference. Much of the focus was on Google Assistant, the artificial intelligence application competing against Amazon's Alexa and others.

This new version of the Assistant is built on a tech machine learning technology called Wavenet, on which the company started building out some 18 months ago.

The new powerful Assistant can now distinguish between two sentences that are joined by "and" and can reply with two different query-specific answers in one go.

A host of other new features are being added to Google Apps - Gmail, Google Maps, Photo app and others.

Among the many differences between iOS and Android is the orientation of the app switcher.

Throw in an FA Cup semi-final defeat by Manchester United and these have been troubling weeks for Mauricio Pochettino. "The situation is not in our hands".

It was nearly impossible to tell the Google Assistant from the human salon worker, demonstrating just how blurred the lines between human and AI have become.

It would also teach some discipline.

The company's also using AI to predict what you're most likely to do after an action is performed or app opened. When kids say "Please" during a command, they would receive thanks from the virtual assistant in response.

Google is also revamping the "Do Not Disturb" mode with Android P. To activate it, just turn your phone over on its screen, Samat said, though in an emergency, "starred contacts" will still be able to reach you. But it also wants to play up the social benefits of AI and how it's being used to improve health care, preserve the environment and make scientific discoveries. These devices would be launched in July.

Google showcased the latest technology called Duplex at the Google I/O conference, recently held in California. Similarly in Google Photos, it will now be easier to share a photo instantly via smart, in-line suggestions. Users can accept the completion by hitting the tab key.

It is now also able to identify fashion items via its new style match feature, while the camera can now also be used to help with navigation, with on-screen visuals to guide users and help them find their bearings.
