Childish Gambino just dropped his new politically charged single This Is America during his appearance as a host on Saturday Night Live.

The video starts with Gambino inside a warehouse as lyrics about having a party begin to play out before the music star breaks things up by shooting a hooded prisoner in the head.

"The fact that Childish Gambino's "This is America" tackles police brutality, gun violence, media misdirection, and the use of African Americans as a brand shield, all while dancing in Jim Crow-style caricature, shows a transcendence of mere performance and demands attention", one person tweeted. Glover, meanwhile, continues to gleefully dance away, performing some of the trendiest dance moves like the Hustle and Gwara Gwara while he ignores the chaos, violence and riots that erupt in the background.

The video has generated a tidal wave of discussion online, with many calling it a work of art.

The music video for This is America, is a surreal masterpiece, and has already garnered more than 700,000 views in less than six hours. #ThisisAmerica is also trending on Twitter.

Donald Glover is all anyone is talking about this Monday.

Glover's music video, directed by long-time collaborator Hiro Murai, is a visceral and metaphorical representation of violence, especially interracial violence, in America over the years.

Kanye West, who has been embroiled in controversy after stating his support for Donald Trump and saying that slavery was a choice, also retweeted the video. Watch it in full here.
