Sherrod Brown will face a November election opponent in Jim Renacci who will contrast his background as a self-made businessman with Brown's many decades as a public official.

Renacci easily edged out Cleveland investment banker Mike Gibbons, a political newcomer who had also sought the votes of Trump fans during his campaign.

Former Buckeyes and Indianapolis Colts receiver Anthony Gonzalez won a three-way primary Tuesday with state Rep. Christina Hagan and physician Michael Grusenmeyer.

The chance at a rare opening in Ohio's 12th congressional district attracted seven Democrats into the race.

But Republican turnout in the primary was impressive.

Several incumbent congressmen who faced competitive GOP primaries all won. He was originally running for OH governor until leading Republican Senate hopeful Josh Mandel dropped out of the Senate race. Gonzalez agrees with such Trump positions as building a border wall.

Brown, 65, is a former congressman and OH secretary of state.
