The secret $130,000 payment was made on the eve the hotly contested 2016 U.S. presidential election to silence Daniel's claims of a decade-old affair with Trump.

The question of whether the payment was meant to aid Trump's candidacy is central to campaign finance considerations - and it's hard to argue that this payment wasn't related to the campaign. I'm giving you a fact now that you don't know. Two separate lines of credit were secured against NY real estate, including a condominium in Trump World Tower owned by Cohen's wife's parents.

No debt to Cohen was listed on Trump's personal financial disclosure form, which was certified on June 16, 2017.

Viewers even got treated to a brand new impression from the always incredible Kate McKinnon, doing her best take on Rudy Giuliani, thanks to some freakish prosthetics and impeccable delivery.

Trump said that here are 13 "angry Democrats" working on the special counsel's investigation and that Mueller "worked for Obama for eight years".

Pressed repeatedly on this point, Conway spoke about Trump's work on a range of issues, such as the economy, North Korea and the opioid crisis, and denied the White House was facing a credibility crisis.

Cummings is urging Rep. Trey Gowdy, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee, to investigate.

President Donald Trump's recently installed top personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said "we don't have to" comply with a subpoena from Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation and left open the possibility that Michael Cohen may have made payments to other women on behalf of Trump.

With experts saying Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor, had jeopardized Trump's legal position, he later sought to walk back his comments.

As his client Donald Trump steamrolled political opponents in early 2016, lawyer Michael Cohen engineered access to as much as $774,000 in new credit.

In his statement on Friday, Giuliani said, "My references to timing were not describing my understanding of the President's knowledge, but instead, my understanding of these matters", but did not provide specifics. He did not elaborate.

The adult film actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford and claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006, is suing the president for defamation and to be released from a non-disclosure deal she agreed to days before the 2016 election in exchange for $130,000. Trump also tweeted that he authorized such a payment.

Trump told reporters Friday he would "love to speak" to Mueller about the Russian Federation investigation if he's "treated fairly".

"I would love to speak, but I have to find that we're going to be treated fairly", Trump told reporters.

"You take a look at what I said", he added.

"Mr. Giuliani and Mr. Trump are making it up as they go along".

The president claimed "virtually everything" reported about the payments - which are the subject of legal action and media attention - has been wrong, but he declined to elaborate.

Cohen had previously denied that he was reimbursed, and Trump had denied even knowing about the payment.
