Avengers: Infinity War dominates box office again with $112.5M second weekend


Domestically, the film took in another $112 million - the second biggest second weekend ever, behind "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" - and has now made $450 million in the USA and Canada. "This is a second weekend number that many films would aspire to have on opening weekend".

Coming in a distant second place this weekend is Pantelion's remake of the 1980s comedy Overboard, starring Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris, which earned a solid $14.7 million.The movie pulled in an impressive $9,088 per-screen average while debuting in just 1,623 theaters.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and made for close to $300 million, Infinity War marks the third Avengers film and the 19th installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"It's great to have a large base especially in the wake of 'Avengers, '" Presburger said.

Infinity War fell 56 percent domestically, a respectable decline for a superhero tentpole.

Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland also features in Avengers: Infinity War. Since the film earned almost $70 million on Friday alone, the studio is confident it will pass the billion-dollar mark on Saturday, in 11 days. With a domestic total of $450.8 million, Infinity War is also the second-fastest release to cross the $400 million mark, also behind only The Force Awakens.
