Trump informs Congress of reasons for strike against Assad regime in Syria

Douma, which lies in the eastern Goutha district on the outskirts of the capital, was one of the last bastions near Damascus of rebels fighting to topple Assad, and the alleged attack took place amid a ferocious government offensive.

Before dawn on Saturday, a coalition of USA, United Kingdom and French forces launched more than 100 missiles targeting three chemical facilities in Syria in retaliation for an apparent chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians on April 7. But here at home, some Syrians say its far from over.

Stepping up the pressure on Syria's President, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley indicated the sanctions to be announced Monday would be aimed at companies "that were dealing with equipment" related to Mr Assad's alleged chemical weapons use.

Yorgos Perros, a member of the communist-affiliated union PAME, said:"What we did today is a symbolic move against the USA and the war in Syria". They also called the attack an impediment to peace. "The U.S. - the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons - has no moral right to blame other countries".

Protesters used a metal grinder to try to cut off the statue's feet and tug it down with ropes before riot police intervened and fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. They need to do more.

Senior intelligence planner at the Institute for the Study of War, Jennifer Cafarella, said, "The strikes will reaffirm President Trump's commitment to deterring chemical weapons use but will not solve the Syria problem".

The strikes Friday were "double" the size of the operation the USA carried out in Syria in April 2017 and would result in a "long term degradation of Syria's ability" to create, use and deploy chemical weapons, Pentagon officials said following the move. Yet he made no mention of a possible Russian military response.

"After examining the videos and images of victims published online, they (intelligence services) were able to conclude with a high degree of confidence that the vast majority are recent and not fabricated", the report said.

March US sales boost signals more optimism
Clothing and clothing accessory stores were up 6.1 percent year-over-year but down 0.8 percent from February seasonally adjusted. The modest increase in ex-auto sales partly reflected a 1.4 percent spike in sales by health and personal care stores.

"So far, thank heavens, the Assad regime has not been so foolish to launch another chemical weapons attack", he said, adding that Britain and its allies "would study what the options were" in the event of another attack.

The barrier for the inspectors comes days after the US, UK and France bombarded sites they said were linked to Syria's chemical weapons programme. Peskov said only that Russian Federation was against "groundless" accusations about who was responsible for the attack.

Before and after satellite pictures have revealed the damage of Saturday's US, French and British strikes that were meant to punish Syria for an alleged chemical weapons attack.

"We, of course, know our work in Syria is not done", U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on "Fox News Sunday".

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons team dispatched to Syria to investigate does not have a mandate to assign blame. It is to determine whether chemical weapons were used, but will not assign blame. "We can't allow even the smallest use of chemical weapons".

[We] condemn and denounce the brutal aggression that took place this morning against our precious country Syria by the USA, France and the United Kingdom, under the allegations that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons. It blamed Islamic State militants for mustard gas use.

"Yet again, Russian Federation is spreading conspiracy theories and misinformation created to undermine the integrity of the OPCW's fact finding mission", Wilson said in a statement. The Security Council is deadlocked over how to replace it.

The Pentagon assessed that nerve agents were present in the Barzah research center and that the Syrian regime employed about 40 surface-to-air missiles, but those launches occurred after the last impact of the USA and its allies' strike.
