Michael Cohen Will Get to Review Seized Documents Before Government Does

Stormy Daniels, 38, caused a huge scrum as she arrived to see the president's personal lawyer argue which of his files the Federal Bureau of Investigation should be allowed to pass to criminal prosecutors.

Last week's raids came after a "months-long" investigation related largely to Cohen's business dealings, rather than his work as a lawyer, prosecutors have said.

USA president's personal attorney Michael Cohen expected to in Federal Court Monday in NY for the resumption of a hearing sought by President after the FBI raided his home and hotel room and he paid $130,000 on the eve of the 2016 presidential election.

A lawyer for Trump filed papers late Sunday asking a federal judge to block prosecutors from studying material seized in the raid until Cohen and the president have a chance to review them and argue which are subject to attorney-client privilege. According to Stormy's attorney, she will be present at Trump attorney hearing.

Lawyers for Cohen appeared without their client at a hearing Friday before US District Judge Kimba Wood.

After the hearing, Cohen left without comment.

The raid sought information about a variety of matters, including a $130,000 payment made to Daniels, a stage name for Stephanie Clifford.

Trump has called Mueller's probe a "witch hunt" and denied any collusion.

"Fairness and justice - as well as the appearance of fairness and justice - require that, before they are turned over to the Investigative Team, the seized materials relating to the President must be reviewed by the only person who is truly motivated to ensure that the privilege is properly invoked and applied: the privilege-holder himself, the President", Hendon wrote.

The disclosure came as Cohen's attorneys tried to persuade a federal judge in NY to delay prosecutors from examining records and electronic devices seized in the raids on the grounds that many of them are protected by attorney-client privilege. The federal prosecutors in Manhattan argued that granting Cohen's lawyers that authority would be unprecedented, and that the use of a special government team would be more appropriate than appointing a special master.

Wood ordered Cohen's lawyers to be ready with a list of Cohen's clients on Monday to support their argument. Trump's lawyers say they also want some form of prior review.

They said investigators seized more than a dozen electronic devices and other items including documents and data unrelated to the probable cause upon which the search warrants were based.

Daniels is engaged in a separate civil legal fight over $130,000 she received in a 2016 agreement arranged by Cohen to stop her from discussing a sexual encounter she says she had with Trump a decade earlier.
