"It's special", he said. "I'm buzzing, over the moon, so happy and proud to be able to share this with all of our fans, everybody who's been there to support us especially in this last week as many know it's been very hard but at the same time we've bounced back, we're champions now and thank you to all of you, It's an incredible season".

The first time you lose it you never think you're going to win it again. It's fantastic, it's such a hard achievement.

"Just one more time, come on City!"

It is the third time in seven seasons City have won the title, and the first in Pep Guardiola's reign.

"You can't take it for granted", Kompany said.

"We responded well - it looked like it could be a similar kind of story when we conceded a goal on the one chance they had and then we were solid, and I'm really happy with that".

'You can't take it for granted, I have been lucky to win three but so many I have missed as well.

"It differs (to previous titles) in the fact we were consistent the whole season. Previously we've almost thrown it away and come back with character".

The Spaniard won three La Liga titles on the bounce with Barcelona between 2009 and 2012.

"If I had met him when I was 20 years old, I would have improved so much", the Belgium global said.

"Everyone that plays under him will have had success because of him, because he has the ability to unlock the full potential".

Oladipo drops 32 as Pacers beat Cavs in opener
Following the win, Oladipo said he wasn't bothered by Gilbert's comment, but did admit that it "added fuel to the fire". Oladipo has thrived in Indiana's offense and has set career highs in points, assists and rebounds this past season.

Kompany and several of his teammates later toasted their title triumph with fans.

City captain Kompany watched the match at the house of his Mancunian wife Carla Higgs, who invited her United-supporting father to join the party.

Kompany made a speech to mark the moment, as he and and his team-mates posed for photos as they left the venue at 10.30pm, leaving to a chorus of "campiones, ole, ole, ole".

"I think we share one thing maybe, the hunger and desire to never be satisfied", said Kompany. It's not a dynasty, it's one title. I'm probably the first one to think about next season. There was a period of adaptation required for everyone.

"We believed in the methods". We survive and live by the strength of the team. "We are nothing without the team".

But they were able to claim glory a week early after second-placed Manchester United suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to lowly West Brom at Old Trafford.

"I had a feeling when I woke up this morning", he said.

Vincent Kompany has been all over the place today.

'It shows how football is in Manchester.

"Today was a day for the Blues - there have been many days for the Reds before, and ultimately it's banter".
