It was City's fifth English league title and third Premier League crown in last six years.

'I'd like to stay humble, it's not a dynasty, it's just one title.

"The first time you think you are going to win all of them and the first time you lose it you think you are never going to win it again". I was unfortunate enough to play against that quality United side that dominated in the '90s, but this side would have beaten them - that's how good they are.

By Christmas, City were already putting together 18 consecutive victories - only one short of Bayern Munich's major league record, also set under Guardiola.

"I've seen many teams win it where they've been champions all season and it's a first for me".

By winning the title with five matches remaining, they have equalled the English top-flight record (Manchester United in 1907/1908 and 2000/2001, and Everton in 1984/1985 all won the top-flight title with five games to spare).

For his part, the leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Gerard Batten, opposed the British military action in Syria. Also that it is not about a wider intervention in the Syrian civil war which would, in our view, be counter productive.

David Silva who has been superb for Manchester City this season however took the chance to reflect on his special year by uploading a photo with his son who was born prematurely in December 2017. "The Premier League is the constant - every day, every day, every day - and we were there every day".

Speaking after the win over Tottenham, Guardiola admitted winning the title in England would be one of the greatest achievements of his glittering career. He won three league titles with Barcelona and twice lifted the Champions League trophy during his Camp Nou reign.

Guardiola and his players will have the chance to celebrate properly on Sunday when they host Swansea in their next fixture. It was always a matter of when rather than if City would be champions after they led the way for most of the season. The current domestic season has been nothing short of phenomenal for Pep Guardiola's men as they have broken record after record since the beginning of the campaign and still looks strong to break several other long-standing Premier League records. They gave a superb response with a swaggering win at fourth placed Tottenham.

West Brom had lost eight of their previous nine games and last won on January 13.

Mourinho claimed afterwards that he had not been happy after the City result because he knew they would win the league regardless and he accused some of his players of getting carried away.
