National Film Awards to be announced today; Kerala in high hopes

Even the late Sridevi was given a posthumous Best Actress honour for her intense role as a mother in her last released film "Mom"."Sridevi was not given the honour because of my relationship with her, but because of her contribution in "Mom"," jury chairperson Shekhar Kapur, who worked with her in "Mr. India', told the media".

Sridevi, who featured in the powerful role of a mother in Mom, received the National Award for Best Actor today. The film also won awards for costume, make-up, and a special jury award.

Hindi film "Newton", a dark comedy on Indian democracy, was named the best Hindi film and a special mention went to its actor Pankaj Tripathi for his portrayal of a cynical CRPF officer.

Jayraj was named the best director and the best adapted screenplay writer for his Malayalam film Bhayanakam. Divya Dutta won best supporting actress for "Irada", which also won best film on environment.

Oscar winning music composer A R Rahman bagged two awards for best music direction in Tamil film "Kaatru Veliyidai" and best background music score for 'Mom'. "The expectations will be high for our next project and we will try to reach it. Paddayi is also selected for the forthcoming U.S. film festival". It's time to celebrate her achievements. Mani sir's (Ratnam, who directed Kaatru) films are always special.

A win like this, which comes after the film's acclaim at the box office, will pave way for an increase in the number of politically relevant films'. She wrote, "There is a gnawing hollowness in my chest that I know I'll have to learn how to live with".

'Blood, sweat, tears and five years of hard work have brought us here.

Meanwhile, Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor and daughters-Janhvi and Khushi have expressed their happiness over the news. It is a very happy moment for us, and a proud moment for our Tulu Nadu.
