Joe Morrow scored with 7:13 remaining to give the Winnipeg Jets a 3-2 victory against the Minnesota Wild in Game 1 of the Western Conference first-round playoff opener on Wednesday night at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
They see it as a missed opportunity to steal a game they maybe didn't deserve to win.
Make no mistake, Winnipeg certainly outplayed the Wild in Game 1, but their dominance in shot metrics and time of possession didn't translate to better scoring chances, which is something they'll need to watch out for as the series goes on. "The guys were honestly more excited for me than I was for myself".
The Jets' ability to get into the slot with their passes and get their shots off from there in Game 1 compared to the regular season, they saw a drop in efficiency in every area at both 5-on-5 and in all situations. But it was a pretty even game after that. "I've had very young teams that have done really good, and I've had really experienced teams that have sort of failed in the first round". Boudreau and several of his troops believe that inexperience showed at times with costly errors. Furthermore, the Jets are now 4-1 against the Wild this season and have won all three meetings on their home ice. "I still think I can come away and have a better game".
"That was not the start for the third period that we wanted". They came at us and were able to get two to get ahead.
Skiver: One of the best logos in sports might have had a chance to at least drag this series to six before Ryan Suter went down for the season with an ankle injury, but the prolific scoring of the Jets is just too much for this Minnesota team.
His top line with Jason Zucker and Nino Niederreiter had a very quiet night in Game 1 and were kept off the scoresheet. Minnesota has a solid offensive attack, but it isn't great by any means so the best way to win will be to keep the total combined goals at five or under.
Trump denies trying to fire the man who's investigating his Russian links
Asked if he was anxious , Cohen said: "I would be lying to you if I told that I am not". Trump technically does not have direct authority to remove Mueller.
"If you've ever read comics, (he's) like the Hulk", Boudreau said.
Zucker took responsibility, saying he he needs to bring much more. Now a strategy that Boudreau may want to incorporate would be to juggle his lines a bit during the game utilizing the TV timeouts and possibly get Granluund and Staal out together for a few shifts during the game. I think we sat back a little bit more than we usually do. "I'll take a faceoff off an icing all day long over a turnover there". It's just the way we can bounce back and get a tying goal and then right after that, get the game-winning goal. I think when we didn't get it behind them. I think there were opportunities to make some plays that didn't happen as well. "I was kind of confused, to be honest".
It was Winnipeg's first victory in a postseason game since the National Hockey League returned to the city for the 2011-12 season. It was clear he was spent and was particularly worthless to the Wild from that point forward where the Jets just iced the puck continuously until the clock wound down to zeroes. They obviously play well in here and the atmosphere was good.
"I think the problem was for us we were nearly too anxious about having that high guy", he said. They have won nine out of (their past) 10 (games).
"Well, they're a big heavy team", Boudreau said of the Jets. Winnipeg has been a strong offensive team all year, but they have been very good at the other end of the ice, especially here at home where they have allowed just 2.45 gpg on the year, while the Wild have averaged just 2.79 gpg on the road.
"Hopefully, they learned about those things (on Wednesday) and they'll be better for it".
