AAA report: Gas prices rise four cents as supplies dip

He says gasoline prices nationwide this spring will be between 10 percent and 25 percent higher than a year ago.

DeHaan said gas prices are likely to continue moving higher in the weeks ahead as demand grows from the winter blues and the transition to summer gasoline kicks into high gear. Two years ago, gas averaged $2.01 here. Gas prices have increased 15.1 cents from last month's average and have increased 24.1 cents from last year's average. MS ($2.28), Alabama ($2.28), SC ($2.29), Arkansas ($2.30), Texas ($2.31), Louisiana ($2.32) and Oklahoma ($2.34) are among the top 10 states with the least expensive gas prices in the country.

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Valdosta Sunday was $2.36, up a penny from the previous week when the average was $2.35, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge report.

Oil production held relatively steady at almost 10.4 million barrels per day, yet remains 12.4 percent above year-ago levels.

"While gasoline prices nationally are trending upward, MA is bucking that trend with prices at the pump down two cents", said Mary Maguire, Director of Public and Legislative Affairs, in a media release.

In Friday market action, benchmark US crude rose $1.15, or 1.9 percent, to $62.34 a barrel in NY.

- Tennessee: the highest average price was $2.41 on February 7; the lowest was $2.26 on January 1.
