Kolasib district administration of Mizoram has assured Assam government that members of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) will not create further law and order problem along Assam-Mizoram interstate border in Kachurthal area of Hailakandi district and they have made a decision to withdraw from the border.

Mizoram understudies' bodies requested that Assam Police work force leave the debated zone by tomorrow.

The prohibitory orders were imposed in Kachurthal and other areas under the Ramnathpur police station, bordering Kolasib district of Mizoram.

The Mizo Journalists' Association, an umbrella body of journalists in Mizoram, staged a sit-in in state capital Aizawl on Tuesday to protest against the attack on five journalists, including a woman television reporter, who were covering the stand-off last week.

In Aizawl, the protesters demanded the resignation of the state government accusing Lal Thanhawla of "sleeping" while the Assam government was "encroaching on Mizo territory in Kolasib near Hailakandi district by constructing schools and police outposts".
