Jose Mourinho Rips 'Worst Manager' Frank de Boer for Marcus Rashford Comments

Jose Mourinho has mocked Frank de Boer as "the worst manager in the history of the Premier League" after the former Crystal Palace boss questioned his handling of Marcus Rashford.

Slightly critical of Mourinho, and you feel De Boer's criticism would be better aimed at the high pressure setting of a top four club as the reason for Rashford's stunted development.

An unimpressed Mourinho hit back, describing de Boer, who had a short-lived and unsuccessful stint at Crystal Palace this season, as "the worst manager in the history of the Premier League".

It is little surprise De Boer's criticism has seemingly rankled with Mourinho. I said that before the Liverpool match when many of you were maybe not expecting him to start.

"Seven matches, seven defeats, zero goals, what he was saying was it was not good for Marcus Rashford to have a coach like me because the most important thing for me is to win".

Maybe with him, he would learn how to lose.

Rashford is in line to start the second leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie against Sevilla at Old Trafford on Tuesday night after that performance against Liverpool.

And a crucial aspect of Rashford's immediate impact came from the fact Mourinho took him out of the spotlight for some time.

He's scored against Arsenal, he's scored away at Man City, at home against Liverpool, in the Europa League semi-final, in plenty of other big occasions for United.

"I try to give the best to the kid, I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that was responsible for his formation".

Rashford has scored six goals in 27 Premier League appearances this season - that's more than the five he managed in last year's campaign, playing 32 games in total. I'm really happy too.

"Of course not. He's a player we trust".

Jesse Lingard has praised Marcus Rashford's mentality following the Manchester United striker's match-winning display against Liverpool at the weekend.

"I think that Gareth Southgate doesn't mind that I say a couple of minutes of our conversation were about Marcus", said Mourinho.
