'Grey's Anatomy' Short-Timer To Star In 'Cagney & Lacey' Reboot

Drew will star with Michelle Hurd (Law & Order: SVU, Blindspot) in Cagney & Lacey.

Cagney & Lacey is about a pair of female detectives who roam the streets of Los Angeles to keep the city safe.

The series is being written by Bridget Carpenter, and will be directed by Rosemary Rodriguez.

Unlike the equal partnership of the earlier series, Cagney will be the protégée of the more experienced Lacey in the pilot, which CBS announced in January. Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly, respectively, starred as the title characters in CBS' 1981-88 original series and three 1990s TV-movies, which were set in NY.

The original series won two Emmy Awards for the Best Drama and six Best Actress in a Drama Series awards - four for Daly and two for Gless.

Another reboot is coming to TV, and this time it's the 80s iconic show Cagney & Lacey that will be brought back to life. Last week, Drew had a supporting role in a huge ensemble cast on "Grey's", and now she's co-leading her own show.

Drew, who plays April Kepner, will exit after nine seasons, eight as a series regular.

"As writers, our job is to follow the stories where they want to go, and sometimes that means saying goodbye to characters we love", Krista Vernoff, executive producer, explains in an official statement.

The actress' departure alongside Jessica Capshaw was big news, with star Ellen Pompeo taking to Twitter to shut down speculation that their exits had anything to do with her recent pay increase, which could make her upwards of $20 million a year.
