On the same day the team reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with defensive tackle Star Lotulelei, the Bills also came to an agreement on a one-year deal with Williams, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The veteran defensive tackle and locker room leader has signed a one-year contract, the team confirmed.

Lotulelei, 28, is a five-year vet of the Carolina Panthers.

If Lotulelei serves as the replacement for traded Marcell Dareus, Williams can continue in his role as an an underrated disruptor with at least five sacks in four of his past six seasons. Of those yards, 1,105 were inside the tackles, and opponents' 4.8 yards per rush inside the tackles was tied for worst in the NFL.

Set to turn 35 in June, the defensive tackle has been the unquestioned heart and soul of the team, as the Bills successfully ended the franchise's 17-year playoff drought. Lotulelei will now provide an anchor for the next few years for a defense being remade in general manager Brandon Beane's image. The Bills finished 26th in yards allowed and gave up 140 or more yards rushing eight times, including a 10-3 loss to Jacksonville in the AFC wild-card playoff game.

Former general manager Dave Gettleman, who was sacked in July, picked defensive tackle Vernon Butler in the first round of the 2016 draft, knowing it would be tough to give big contracts to both Short and Lotulelei. He's also rather durable, starting every single game over the past two seasons.
