QB Case Keenum intends to sign with Broncos, sources say

Quarterback Case Keenum, who guided the Minnesota Vikings to the brink of the Super Bowl last season, is expected to sign with the Broncos when free agency opens Wednesday, according to several reports.

Keenum signed for $2 million a year ago as a safety net for the Minnesota Vikings.

Siemian again handily beat out Lynch last summer, but the Broncos would cycle through their trio of homegrown QBs during a 5-11 season that almost cost rookie head coach Vance Joseph his job.

Keenum threw for 22 touchdowns and only seven interceptions while going 11-3 as a starter for the Vikings in place of the injured Sam Bradford last season.

Elway insists the Broncos can get right back into the playoff picture with the right quarterback and tweaks to other areas of the roster.

In December, British Prime Minister Theresa May agreed to regulatory alignment across the United Kingdom to avoid border posts and checks.

Kubiak has an increased role in the Broncos' personnel evaluations this year and has been a major voice as Denver prepares for free agency and the draft.

The Broncos were thought to make a serious push for former Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins. The Broncos were blighted by poor quarterback play last season, with Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch all failing to impress.

Those two realities made Keenum the more attractive choice for the Broncos - creating an aggressive push to get a deal hammered out on Monday afternoon. While Cousins is a very talented quarterback, not even Peyton Manning and all of his future Hall of Fame glory commanded that much when he signed with the Broncos back in 2012.

Keenum could ultimately be a longer-term bridge quarterback, but expect him to start for the team in 2018. Their inconsistent play on both the offensive line and at quarterback have been big reasons why they've sat out the postseason.

"I still think that we're not too far away", Elway said earlier in the offseason. "Obviously we have to get better at that position". We didn't play very well there past year, and that's not all on the players. That doesn't all go on the players.
