Netflix's The Crown Paid Queen Elizabeth Less Than Prince Philip

Foy's performance in The Crown has garnered her a BAFTA nomination for the Best Leading Actress on Television, two Golden Globe nominations (and one win) for Best Actress - Television Drama series, an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and four Screen Actors Guild nominations, with two wins as the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

Producers on Netflix's "The Crown" said during a recent panel interview that Matt Smith, who played Prince Philip, made more money than Claire Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth II.

I hope that whoever is replacing Smith (rumor has it that it's Hugh Laurie) will be making less money than Olivia Colman, as promised, because as Mackie said, "no one gets paid more than the Queen".

The gender wage gap has been a trending topic of conversation in entertainment circles dating back to the Sony hacks, when it was revealed that Jennifer Lawrence was paid significantly less than her American Hustle male co-stars; the roiling #MeToo revolution and Time's Up initiative have put it squarely back into the spotlight over the past year.

Here's when Apple will reveal what's next for iOS and macOS
Last year's WWDC saw Apple roll out ARKit , a set of developer tools that led to a bit of boom in AR-friend apps for iOS devices . As always, we'll keep you up to speed with all the news that comes out of San Jose this June.

The makers of the Netflix drama, speaking at a television conference in Jerusalem yesterday, claimed Smith was paid more because he was better known when the series was cast. "Going forward", Mackie said Tuesday, "no one gets paid more than the Queen". It's too late for Foy to benefit from the new policy, though: Olivia Colman is set take over the role of Elizabeth as the show's plot line advances to the 1970s.

The Crown chronicles Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the present day. For the next two seasons, all the roles will be recast with older actors. That was a bigger draw for me, at least, to see Foy take her turn as yet another British Queen. A replacement for Smith's role as Prince Philip has not been announced yet.

When The Crown premiered in 2016, Smith was the more recognizable star thanks to his 2010-2013 tenure as the 11th Doctor on Doctor Who.
