The Mustang California Special has been a part of the Mustang repertoire off and on since 1968.
Along with the return of the Bullitt-edition Mustang GT, inspired by the auto Steve McQueen drove in the classic film, Ford will also be offering a California Special version of the pony vehicle after a year hiatus.
2019 is going to look at lot like 1968 at Ford dealerships. This year, however, on top of the signature California Special side stripe and rear fender vent, the muscle vehicle gets a B&O Play 12-channel speaker system customized to the acoustics of the car's interior and a transmission equipped with rev-matching technology. To differentiate it from the standard 2019 Mustang, the CS gets a blacked-out grille, fading stripes, unique five-spoke wheels and a new trunk badge.
To complement the visual styling, the 5-liter V8 making 460 hp and 420 lb-ft connects to a six-speed manual gearbox with Rev Matching tech.
Climb inside the new GT Calfiornia Special and you'll be greeted by seats trimmed in black Miko® suede with red accent stitching and embossed GT/CS insignias, paired with embroidered GT/CS floor mats.
Advanced rev-matching helps smooth out shifts by predicting shifts and then quickly matching engine rpm - similar to the heel-and-toe methods the pros use.
Like Ford Mustang, Bang & Olufsen is an innovator in both iconic design and heart-racing performance across its line of audio products. The active exhaust and start quiet modes are also included. Buyers will have the choice to add a new 1,000 watt, 12-speaker B&O system to the Mustang.
Ford is also leveraging its new partnership with B&O Play on the 2019 Mustang. It appeared on stage with a surviving dark Highland green.
The 2019 Ford Mustang will go on sale this summer.
