Slow bleed: Trump aide Hicks the latest to leave White House

MSNBC's Chuck Todd railed against Hope HicksHope Charlotte HicksJohn Kelly - like this whole White House - is done Mueller interviews former Trump legal spokesman: report Liberals undermine #MeToo with partisan attacks MORE on Wednesday for revealing that as White House communications director she "lies" to the public.

Her intention to resign, first announced by The New York Times, came one day after her eight-hour closed testimony in Congress, where she declined to answer many questions about the Russian Federation investigation, but admitted to telling the president "white lies".

"Hicks largely floated above day to day conflicts with the press (and more than others, internally) whereas the nature of Spicer's job required day to day conflict", said NY magazine White House correspondent Olivia Nuzzi, who profiled Hicks for GQ Magazine in 2016. "The source saying Trump berated Hicks after her testimony to Congress yesterday, you know, the nine hours in which she admitted to telling lies on behalf of the president".

The departure of Hicks, who worked as a one-woman communications shop during his campaign, came as a surprise to most in the White House - and cast a pall over the West Wing at a trying time for the president.

The departure of Hope Hicks is the end of an era in President Trump's inner circle.

Here's a timeline of some of the most high-profile changes in the White House.

White House Communications Director Hope Hicks arrives to meet with the House Intelligence Committee in Washington. The White House said she has been weighing leaving her position for months. Hicks and Porter were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship. In 1990, he worked as Trump's golf caddie at the NY golf club that would later become Trump National Golf Club Westchester.

"I think the changes that may occur as a result of Hicks's exit have more to do with the president's ability to exist without her in an emotional sense", Nuzzi continued.

Hope Hicks OUT. Who will be the next to go?!

Hicks was also pressed about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer, which she said she did not learn about until June 2017 even though she was in Trump Tower that day, CNN reported Tuesday.

For someone with zero political experience when she signed on to the Trump campaign for a January 2015 trip to Iowa, it was a meteoric - and potentially mind-boggling - rise. "She is in a league of her own and no one can replace her".

During her time on the campaign trail and at the White House, Hicks memorably made waves when she wore a head-turning black tuxedo at Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe's state banquet last fall.

The media-shy Hicks was thrust into the spotlight last month after allegations surfaced that then-White House staff secretary Rob Porter had abused his ex-wives.

"To say that she will be missed, is an understatement", Kelly said. The resignation was not tied to her testimony, the White House said.

The Greenwich, Connecticut, native officially entered Trump's orbit in 2014, after the President's daughter Ivanka Trump poached Hicks from the public affairs firm where Trump had been a client.
