Canada PM Justin Trudeau to visit Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat today


Canadian PM Trudeau along with his wife and 3 children Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien visited the famous Taj Mahal of Agra on Sunday, but were not met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu had been when he visited the Taj Mahal.

Trudeau became nostalgic and remembered the first time he visited the magnetic architecture.

This is Trudeau's maiden visit to the country.

However, the welcome of Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to India in his first trip to the nation, was marked with an absence of PM Modi, and even Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was absent.

A number of Trudeau's cabinet colleagues including Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan, Science and Sports Minister Kirsty Duncan and Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi are also visiting India.

The lacklustre welcome comes against the backdrop of Trudeau fighting off disquiet in the Indo-Canadian community and concerns in India that his government is enabling pro-Khalistan elements.

Trudeau will also participate in several business roundtables to promote further trade and investment between Canada and India. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau along with his family is on a state visit to India and have been witnessing the Indian Hospitality.

Modi will hold bilateral talks with Trudeau on February 23 following which a number of agreements are expected to be signed.
