McMorris' countryman Max Parrot, Norway's Marcus Kleveland and the American duo of Chris Corning and Redmond Gerard will also look to place high during the two qualifying sessions in which competitors will have two runs to record their top score.
It was the second consecutive Olympic Winter Games that McMorris won slopestyle snowboarding bronze as he finished third with broken ribs at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Down to his final run - after crashing on his first two attempts - Parrot seized silver in men's slopestyle snowboard with an even score of 86.00. McMorris took third after putting up a score of 85.20 in his second run.
Most of the slopestyle competitors will also compete in the big air event in Pyeongchang, a new addition to the Olympic program for 2018.
Mark McMorris's world came crashing to a halt in March a year ago when he was snowboarding through some backcountry in Whistler, Canada and slammed into a tree.
Nicholson, was scored a 76.41 on his second run, which was his best in the three-run final. This was the best run I could put down at the right moment and now it's the judges' decision.

McMorris tumbled on his final run, leaving the door open for Parrot to land on the podium. And within months the 24-year-old was back on his snowboard. McMorris played it rather safe. "I had some low times, but these high times make it worthwhile". McMorris sees himself as a pure snowboarder who values his time filming and riding in the backcountry every bit as much, or more, than competition.
Along with all Canadians, I am extremely proud of Max and Mark's outstanding performances.
Parrot is proud of the time he spends in the gym on the trampoline and he suspects McMorris might do the same - but just not tell anyone about it.
