Bharti Airtel Q3 consolidated net down 39% at ₹306 cr


Consolidated revenue fell almost 13 per cent to Rs 20,319 crore from a year earlier as data and voice rates fell.

Still, Bharti Airtel's India revenue, which accounts for over 75% of the total business, declined by 15% to Rs 15,294 crore in the the period under review from Rs 18,012.6 crore. "The recent announcement of reduction in worldwide termination rates will accentuate this decline and benefit foreign operators with no commensurate benefit to customers", said Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO of Airtel India & South Asia.

The net profit went down for the seventh successive quarter.

"Continued investments in data capacities, strategic partnerships with content and handset providers and focus on customer friendly innovations like data rollover has led to healthy customer additions of 8.1 million during the quarter", he added.

Akhil Gupta, Chairman, Bharti Infratel, said that the overall long-term outlook for the telecom industry would be positive due to expected accelerated step-up of nationwide 4G rollouts by operators. Year-on-year de-growth primarily impacted by mobile drop of 17.6 per cent.

"Airtel has witnessed a revenue growth of 5.3 per cent year-on-year with a higher net revenue growth of 8.8 per cent year-on-year".

The telco's consolidated EBITDA at Rs 7,587 crore declined 11.5% year-on-year.

This is a year-on-year (YoY) decline of 39 per cent as compared with ₹504 crore in the corresponding quarter previous year.

Airtel results also shows that the company's India revenue has dipped by 15% to clock Rs 15,294 crore in the December quarter of 2017 compared to Rs 18,012 crore for the same period a year ago. Mobile broadband customers increased 64.9 percent to 62.1 million.

Consolidated mobile data traffic at 1,178 Mn MBs in the quarter has registered a robust Y-o-Y growth of 460.4% on an underlying basis.
