Parade celebrates legacy of Martin Luther King Jr


"As we all strive for a better world, the King parade is an excellent way to demonstrate our unified commitment to peace and brotherhood", Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This was accomplished Saturday night through musical selections such as "This Little Light of Mind", "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "Never Have to be Alone" and others; prayer; creative interpretations; candle lightings in Dr. King's memory; and special remarks about the impression his incredible life made on America. Both the parade and program were held to not only honor what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for, but also to remind people how far they have come. Taking time to recognize and honor greatness is never redundant or a wasted exercise - and the example King set during those pivotal years of the Civil Rights Movement continue to have an inspirational impact in our nation, state and local neighborhoods to this day. It's not uncommon for people to focus so much on planning and producing events to fill the day that we lose sight of why the holiday exists in the first place - honoring the groundbreaking work of an outstanding leader.
