Manchester United confident of winning race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal

Too many have underperformed this season, and it might well turn out to be a bad time to play the Potters from United's point of view.

It doesn't rule them out of signing Sanchez; City are ready to wait until June when the player's contract expires. However, unlike his two teammates it is believed that the former Bournemouth loanee wants to stay at the north London club. I don't think it is correct to say things about Alexis Sanchez.

"There is still an opportunity for [Ozil] to stay", he said.

With an asking price of around £35 million for the Chilean, it looks like Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and even Real Madrid are interested in the 28-year-old.

"In relation to Sanchez all I can say, which everyone else says, is that he is a phenomenal player".

Ex-Manchester United forward Andy Ritchie admits that it would have been surprising if Jose Mourinho had not shown an interest in signing wantaway Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez. "So he wants to fight as well for the Premier League".

Wenger sounded optimistic that a breakthrough could be imminent in contract talks with Ozil, saying he feels more confident now than in the summer that a deal could be reached with the German.

Whether Sanchez will listen or not remains to be seen, but we should find out his decision in the next few days.

Newcastle must be more clinical, says Rafael Benitez after Swansea draw
Swansea , like Carvalhal, have a good record on Tyneside, winning three and drawing one of their five Premier League visits there. It would be worse if we were not creating chances.

However, Arsene Wenger's side were unable to secure a replacement - Thomas Lemar from Monaco - and the deal for Sanchez collapsed.

Here we are again, facing the prospect of losing another World class player to the same club, only this time to the Portuguese windbag. Incidentally he won trophies with us.

He said he was reluctant to speak about a player at another club, but did not rule out a United bid.

Wenger also dismissed speculation that he could leave the club himself this summer if Arsenal have another disappointing season.

It's why the Chilean is nearly certain to move on either in January or at the end of the campaign, and the calibre of clubs linked with Sanchez is not a surprise.

Mourinho has been quick to deny reports that he could walk away from United at the end of this season, and he was full of smiles at his press conference on Friday afternoon.

He announced: "I am always committed. Never. Why should I change?" he said. A move to Serie A would seem like a sensible one for the 27-year-old.
