Katie Couric Has Called Matt Lauer's Behavior "Completely Unacceptable"

13, 2018, Katie Couric opened up to People about Matt Lauer's shocking termination from NBC News.

The veteran news anchor told People she is still struggling to process the allegations. She added that "It's still very upsetting", and that she "really admire [s] the way Savannah [Guthrie] and Hoda [Kotb] and the entire Today show staff have handled a very hard situation".

Katie Couric shared her opinions about Matt Lauer's firing from the "Today" show in an exclusive People interview published Saturday.

The late-night show joke Couric referenced dates to 2012's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Couric stressed that throughout her revered Today career, she was wholly unaware of any misconduct on Lauer's end: "I had no idea this was going on during my tenure or after I left". A clip of her saying it circulated after Lauer's firing. "The accounts I have read and heard are upsetting, debilitating and disorienting plus it's really completely improper that any female in the Now show experienced this sort of treatment method". "I really admire the way Savannah [Guthrie] and Hoda [Kotb] and the entire Today show staff have handled a very hard situation", she concludes.

She was criticized for not addressing the scandal past year.

Lauer was sacked in November over the allegations of multiple women, one of whom claimed he sexually assaulted her while they worked on the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In December, Couric said the claims were "upsetting" but that she would only speak when she was "ready".

Couric has only spoken out once before about her longtime pal Lauer after a Twitter user called her out for her silence.

Lauer made a statement following the allegations, apologizing and stating "Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed".
