Higher speed passenger train service begins in South Florida

The downtown Miami station is expected to launch service at some point over the next few months, according to a press release.

The $10 one-way tickets buy a seat in the 66-seat Smart Coach. Each of Brightline's five trains consists of two locomotives and four passenger cars and can hold about 240 riders. Children 12 and under will receive a 50 percent discount.

Initial service will include 10 daily round trips on weekdays and nine on weekends between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. ET, but schedules will vary day-to-day, Brightline officials said.

Seats will be offered as singles or doubles, along with "quad arrangements" where double seats face each other with a table in between. But Brightline promises a 35-minute nonstop ride between downtowns - about half the time of Tri-Rail's multi-stop service.

In downtown Miami, plans call for 1.5 million square feet of development covering six blocks around the downtown station, including 800-plus residences, 165,000 square feet of retail space and 300,000 square feet of Class A office space.

A standard one-way trip between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach will cost $10.

Earlier in 2014 as well, Buffett had warned earlier against cryptocurrencies. "They've both got Berkshire in their blood". Gregory Abel, 55, will be vice chair of non-insurance businesses. "We will not and will never have positions", said he.

Over the past month, the company has been operating simulated service to prepare for operational readiness. The launch date for that leg has yet to be announced.

A Miami station is scheduled to open later this year.

Though popular in South Florida, Brightline has faced staunch opposition and legal challenges from Florida's Treasure Coast - three-county region north of West Palm Beach - where many residents believe the railroad would endanger public safety, pollute the environment and decrease quality of life.

The private rail service also announced yet another leadership change.

Meanwhile, Brightline announced that Patrick Goddard has been promoted to president. Howard replaced Mike Reininger, who became executive director of Brightline parent FECI.
