Gerrit Cole Really is Going to the Astros

The World Series champion Houston Astros have acquired right-hander Gerrit Cole in a five-player deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates announced they will receive four players-infielder Colin Moran, pitchers Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz and outfielder Jason Martin-in exchange for Cole.

The Yankees have once again missed out on acquiring Gerrit Cole. "We are very appreciative for what Gerrit has done for our team and organization, especially his important role on the 2013-15 playoff teams".

Prior to 2017, Cole had allowed only 36 home runs in 579.1 career innings pitched.

No US sanctions on Iran nuclear deal for now
Trump also indicated that he would support the Iranian people in their efforts to demand change through widespread protests. Trump signed a waiver keeping the USA sanctions that would scuttle the deal suspended for another 120 days.

That remains his best year as he's managed to only win 19 games the last two years combined. His best season came in 2015, when he made the All-Star Game and finished fourth in Cy Young Award voting.

After going 75-87 in 2017, Pirates general manager Neal Huntington made the call to deal Cole in an effort to bring in a strong package of talent for his team as it looks to avoid a significant drop-off when all those deals expire.

Over 127 starts for the Pirates, including three in the postseason, Cole went 59-42 with a 3.50 ERA.

Last season Cole was 12-12 with a 4.06 ERA while leading the league in starts with 33. "He is physical, athletic, has a multiple pitch arsenal and aptitude to attack major league hitters". He hit.308 with 18 home runs and 63 RBIs in 79 games with Triple-A Fresno. Moran would last be listed as a Top 100 prospect ahead of the 2014 season. Information from ESPN was used in this report.
