What Does Judge's Decision Mean For DACA Recipients Now?

A United States judge has blocked President Donald Trump from ending an Obama-era programme that protected from deportation migrants who entered America illegally as children.

The judge's ruling came hours after Trump met with lawmakers at the White House to discuss the DACA program and other immigration issues.

But in a tweet storm Friday, Trump characterized the "so-called bipartisan DACA deal" as "a step backwards".

But critics of the President's decision to end the policy, including several states and organisations, had already sued the administration, saying that shutting down the programme was arbitrary and done without following legal procedures. But the fact of the matter is that they are playing a weak hand, I note in my column at The Week.

For a moment, Democrats thought they had struck an unexpected deal with President Donald Trump.

At this stage, even diehard liberals should be asking themselves: Was Obamacare really worth it?

"They can't go back and renew today", said Marielena Hincapié, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center.

Trump has a love-hate relationship with the media ever since he started his presidential election campaign.

The senators had hoped to persuade Trump to support their plan, which pairs increased funding for border security with new legal status for immigrants who were previously protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as DACA.

The agreement among senators came as more than 100 corporate CEOs urged Congress to "act immediately and pass a permanent bipartisan legislative solution to enable Dreamers who are now living, working, and contributing to our communities to continue doing so".

At one point, Trump, according to two sources, said: "Why do we want all these people from Africa here?" Schumer are now allies, both attempting to push the Trump Administration toward a deal for a so called "Clean" DREAM act that is NOT tied to one of Mr. Trump's key campaign pledges - a border wall.

He asserted that the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security has long had the authority to grant the kind of temporary protections that formed the basis of the programme.

"Mr. President, you need to be clear though", McCarthy chimed in.
