Streaming service Hulu released the first stills from the second season of The Handmaid's Tale on Friday. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander's household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. She only dons a white tank-top while staring blankly at a distance. Another photo sees the Handmaids walking through a graveyard amid a heavy snow. Now, she's inexplicably covered in blood. Several shelters can be seen at the distance.
"These scenes that are so handsome, while set in such a awful place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy", showrunner Bruce Miller tells EW of the stills. "Instead, you just have to do not forget to try and tell a good story".
"'Gilead is within you' is a favorite saying of [antagonist] Aunt Lydia", according to Hulu. "Sometimes while writing the scripts, I just really wanted to surprise her", he says.
Tom Brady's a Legend, But New England is 'Garrapolonoid'
They'll need their defense to somehow slow Brady (good luck with that). "He's been the best for quite some time", Mariota said. He doesn't throw with great accuracy, and he won't blow you away with passing yardage, but he will fight and scrap.
The new images offer our first look at a handmaid's funeral in Gilead, as well as a preview of the colonies-the radioactive wasteland where those convicted of crimes are sent to work themselves to death. It'll also give us a look at what happened to those who've been exiled to the Colonies.
Given that the first season was based on Margaret Atwood's classic dystopian novel, the second season of the series - which is created by Bruce Miller and produced by MGM Television - will tread brand new ground. She headed either to dire punishment for a rebellion or to freedom.
