Sen. Jeff Klein was accused earlier this week by Erica Vladimer of forcibly kissing her outside an Albany bar in the early spring of 2015. She told New York City's NY1 cable television news Thursday that she was inspired to come forward now after Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual misconduct dating back years.
True Blue New York, a women-led anti-IDC group, noted State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins recently introduced legislation to combat sexual harassment in government. The Senator says he did hear a rumour about an alleged incident the next day, April 1st, 2015, but told others he did not try to kiss the staffer and soon forgot about it.
Lewis Kaminski, who plans to run against Klein in the upcoming primary elections, released a statement late Wednesday expressing his admiration for Vladimer, adding "she deserves our respect for showing this kind of courage and sharing her story in the face of what must be tremendous pressure".
The friend, whom the Huffington Post did not name because she still works in the Senate, also spoke to a reporter for the website about Vladimer being upset and confiding in her the night of the alleged incident.
On Tuesday, Krueger said Vladimer called her to tell her the Huffington Post article would publish Wednesday. Klein is the leader of a breakaway group of Democrats known as the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC). Those are the facts.
