Freezing temperatures and snow predicted for Middle Tennessee on Friday


Winter weather advisory in effect from midnight through 3 p.m. Thursday.

The watch is in effect for Richland, Ashland, Crawford, Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Lake, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Summit, Stark, Trumbull and Wayne counties.

Locally 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible for the Ohio Valley with a glaze of ice possible as well. About 3 to 4 inches is expected for the Elizabethtown area and up to a quarter inch of ice. "Temperatures will plummet overnight into Thursday, and gusty northwest winds will accompany the influx of cold air". As the Arctic cold air plows in, precipitation has changed quickly from rain to a brief period of freezing rain or sleet, then snow from western Wisconsin to southern Kansas.

Friday evening into Saturday, snow will begin to accumulate.

As a winter storm brings the potential for a nasty Friday morning commute, the National Weather Service has urged Indianapolis residents to be weather aware.

Wednesday - Partly sunny, with a high near 16. Day, there will be a 30 percent chance of snow before noon, with a high near 21, the weather service said. Temperatures are expected to remain freezing until Sunday across the region.

Previous year more than 61 inches of snow fell on Spokane in the winter.
