Bowen was ranked as the No. 13-overall player in the nation by 247sports, having committed to play for then-Louisville head coach Rick Pitino back in June.

That's a big reason, Martin said, Bowen and his family settled on SC for the highly regarded 6-foot-7 forward's next basketball chapter. This circumstance was cited in Justice Department documents that did not mention him by name, but presented facts about the timing of his commitment that only could describe Bowen. One of the coaches was Oklahoma State assistant Lamont Evans, who was a member of Martin's SC staff from 2012-16.

Louisville eventually banned Bowen from playing for the Cardinals and allowed him to transfer elsewhere.

Martin says USC president Dr. Harris Pastides and athletics director Ray Tanner signed off on Bowen's enrollment which has started with the spring semester.

Former McDonald's All-American Brian Bowen is enrolling at the University of SC and applying for reinstatement from the NCAA, his attorney confirmed to Yahoo Sports on Wednesday evening. The recruit was identified as "Player-10" in the report, yet the details of the allegations made it clear Bowen was the player in question. He enrolled at SC on Monday, is on scholarship and will practice with the team once he gets his bearings on campus, Martin said.

Bowen has been working out with former University of Kentucky star Derek Anderson for the last two months but on Wednesday Anderson said that he has not spoken to Bowen "for about a week".

Wednesday afternoon SC issued a statement, announcing Bowen's enrollment.

"We all got a chapter in our life that we're not comfortable with", Martin said. He just wants to enjoy it. "I'm excited for him".
