Raptors' Ibaka, Heat's Johnson suspended for throwing punches

Ibaka will serve his suspension on January 11, when the Raptors host the Cleveland Cavaliers at Air Canada Centre. A stunned Air Canada Centre crowd saw victory turn into defeat.

Wayne Ellington hasn't participated in a three-point contest since he was a high school senior in 2006, the year he edged former Heat first round pick Daequan Cook to win the trophy at the McDonald's High School All-American Game. And with the NBA's best winning percentage - a 33-8 record heading into Wednesday night's game against the L.A. Clippers - the Warriors are not showing any signs of slowing down.

Along with the late-game drama, there was some tension between the two teams.

Problem is, the Raptors are not expected to send their best unit onto the floor, so using the upcoming games as a litmus test for their own progress will be hard. Kyle Lowry is already day-to-day with a back injury.

The Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors played a thriller on Tuesday night, with the Heat coming out on top due to a layup by Wayne Ellington right before the clock hit zero. It is not known how long Lowry will be out.

Miami Heat forward James Johnson and Toronto Raptors forward Serge Ibaka have each been suspended one game without pay for throwing punches at one another, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan and Heat guard Goran Dragic got into it after the final whistle, going at each other when the teams were lining up to shake hands.

On the season the Raptors are 28-11, which places them three games back of the Boston Celtics.

Miami have climbed up to fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. Last season, Toronto finished 22nd with an average of 24.3. The Cleveland Cavaliers are in town.

The Heat may not possess a bonafide star but they have a collection of good players who pride themselves on playing hard every night and leaving everything on the floor.
