Crossover gets hot-hatch thinking, more tech — Ford Edge ST

On the heels of its hottest year for SUV sales, Ford unveiled a new 2018 Edge midsize sport utility that targets upscale shoppers. The 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 under its hood kicks 335 horsepower-20 horses more than the Edge Sport that precedes it-to the wheels.

That, in turn, is fixed to a "quick-shifting" eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel-drive.

Along with the new ST model, Ford has upgraded the rest of the Edge lineup for 2019 with more safety systems, infotainment options, and powertrain equipment. "From a performance standpoint, and with its SUV silhouette and versatility, it sets a new standard Edge fans will love to drive". Available 21-inch wheels round off the souped-up Edge's intentioned look, but Ford made sure to throw plenty of "ST" badges around the interior as well as paddle shifters and bolstered seats so occupants don't forget that this is actually a full-blown performance model, not just an overpowered grocery-getter.

The ST has a special grille, side skirts, and dual exhaust outlets. And according to the manufacturer, it's the most powerful V6 offered in its class. Standard assists include hill start assist, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert, automatic high beams, lane keeping system, Forward Collision Warning with brake support, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, and for the first time in any Ford vehicle, Post-Collision Braking.

USA singer Kelly Clarkson has admitted she smacks her children and says she doesn't think there is anything wrong with it. I'm like, "Hi, I'm going to spank you on your bottom if you don't stop right now" ... and honestly it's really helped".

The vehicle also has available evasive-steering assist to help drivers steer around stopped or slowing vehicles.

Owners of the Edge generally aren't weekend warriors and don't have multiple vehicles, said Jonathan Crocker, vehicle engineering manager. And ST-tuned suspension. Edge models will come standard with FordPass Connect, a WiFi hotspot that can connect up to 10 devices. That last item connects your vehicle with your home Amazon assistant, allowing you to keep up with daily appointments, check for nearby points of interest and even make some purchases without ever leaving the driver's seat.

A powerfully sophisticated ride The new Edge comes standard with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that offers a 5 horsepower increase and improved fuel economy over the outgoing model. It's all mated to a new 8-speed transmission.

Inside, a redesigned center console is accentuated by an all-new rotary gearshift dial that frees up space, allows easier access to the wireless charging pad and enhances the vehicle's modern, sophisticated feel. It's like the existing Edge Sport, only more so.
