In a statement, Apple said, "We expected to need more time to be ready, but we are happy to offer our customers the lower pricing right away".

Last month, Apple acknowledged that it slowed down the speed of older iPhone models, claiming that the measure was necessary to prevent the devices from shutting down suddenly.

The Korean unit has now responded by pledging to provide on-par services for domestic consumers, who can replace their iPhone batteries at designated service centers for 34,000 won (US$32), down from the previous 100,000 won cost of new batteries. The new packs reportedly will be "L" shaped rather than rectangular to allow Apple to squeeze as much battery into the iPhone as possible. They are now offering a $29 battery replacement on the iPhone 6 and above.

Maruti Suzuki's December sales up 10 percent
While the company's domestic volumes were up 12 percent year on year at 1.9 lakh, it was led by growth in compact and UV segments. The company had sold a total of 1,84,944 units in the similar month of the previous year, TVS Motor Company said in a statement.

Apple said it used software updates to improve power management and "avoid unexpected shutdowns on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE". The replacement programme will run until December 2018.

Following its "battery gate" scandal, Apple has slashed the price of out of warranty replacement iPhone batteries for customers in Thailand. They demand free replacements, and went on to complain Apple didn't publicize the start of the replacement program on its website.

Following the revelations, Apple has also said it will issue an update to iOS that will give users more information on battery performance.
