Students injured in Highlands County school bus crash, troopers say

The school bus was carrying 39 students when it was traveling north on U.S. 27 in the right lane, approaching Lake Ridge Drive around 7:42 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Almost two dozen people were injured after an accident involving a school bus in Lake Placid, Florida, WTSP reports.

According to 10News WTSP, the bus driver and six students were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The accident occurred when the bus stopped, with red lights flashing, to pick up students at Lake Ridge Drive.

Two students were seriously injured in the crash and flown to Tampa General.

The bus was knocked onto its side, he said.

Stanley Lockwood, 45, of Orlando, did not stop his vehicle in time and rear-ended the school bus, FHP Lt. Gregory Bueno said.

- Authorities say a semitrailer collided with a school bus in Florida, sending at least four students to the hospital.

"It could have been far worse", hospital administrator Denise Grimsley said.

"Please do not come to the accident scene", HCSO posted on Facebook.
