Police responding to school shooting at Aztec High school

Police have confirmed reports of a shooting at Aztec High School in Aztec, New Mexico.

Lt. Kyle Lincoln from the San Juan County Sheriff Department told KRQE News 13 that police are still searching the school. The shooter is in custody, KRQE reported citing local officials.

All other schools in the district have been placed on lockdown.

House passes bill loosening gun restrictions
Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), who is the co-author of the bipartisan Fix NICS Act , called the bill "a bad , risky idea". Esty represents Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 students and six educators were fatally shot in 2012.

Sheriff Ken Christesen confirms the shooting at Aztec High School on Thursday morning. The extent of injuries in the school is unknown at this time. Parents are able to pick up their children at 516 and Mesa Verde, after they are checked in and accounted for.

The police department in nearby Bloomfield locked down school buildings as a precaution, according to the department's Facebook page.
