Drake, Moana Top Apple Charts in 2017

With a press release and special sections featured on its digital storefronts this morning, Apple revealed the most popular apps, games, and media releases of 2017. It has also announced most popular apps, music, movies and more ... The game is available for free. In Canada, Affinity Photo has won the title of the iPad app of the year, whereas Old Man's Journey has surfaced as the iPad game of the year. Pool simulation 8 Ball Pool was close behind at #2, followed by Snake VS Block, Ballz, and Word Cookies!

Apple highlights hat 2017 has been a "big year" for apps, games, and trends in app culture.

The top free iPhone apps of the year included lots of usual suspects: Bitmoji, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps, Netflix, Spotify, and Uber. As we previously noted, Bitmoji has seen explosive growth over the a year ago and a half as it's steadily integrated the app's customizable emoji into Snapchat.

"We want to partner with innovation incubators to support local developers and bring their content onto our platform, this is part of our long term strategy to build up our localised content inventory", said Li.

Finally, the top movie of the year was "Moana", followed by "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "Wonder Woman." iTunes is leading the charge toward 4K HDR content, with most of the top charting movies already available in 4K HDR as well as classics and holiday favorites like the Harry Potter series, "Home Alone", "Office Christmas Party" and "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas".
