You wouldn't tell us the Black Mirror season 4 release date until well after we'd breathlessly covered each trailer. Black Mirror's move to Netflix gave it access to a larger budget, resulting in six new episodes past year, almost doubling the then-count of seven from two seasons and a Christmas special. USS Callister is the most eye-catching new episode given its vibrant colour palette and clear Star Trek influence.

"Crocodile" directed by John Hillcoat and starring Andrea Riseborough, Andrew Gower, and Kiran Sonia Sawar. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm - a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone - a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us. Starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Brenna Harding and Owen Teague. There's a machine learning twist to the episode, which stars Georgina Campbell (Flowers, Broadchurch), Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Green Room), and George Blagden (Versailles, Vikings), and has been directed by Tim Van Patten (The Sopranos, Game of Thrones). "Black Museum" is directed by Colm McCarthy. Directed by David Slade.

And many amongst those to criticise it were the corporation's own stars. "Not our usual standards and I apologize for any upset". On Tuesday, Shashi Kapoor was honoured with a three-gun salute in the presence of his family and the Bollywood biggies.

In addition to Plemons, who gets a captain's reception in the teaser and front-and-center billing on the episode's poster, the episode stars Westworld's Jimmi Simpson, How I Met Your Mother's Cristin Milioti, Bridge of Spies' Billy Magnussen and Michaela Coel, who previously appeared in the season three episode "Nosedive", playing-presumably-a different character. Charlie Brooker's celebrated and award-winning anthology series will be available to stream in its entirety on Netflix from Friday, 29 December.
