Amazon offers prime membership service for free global shipping and video streaming


Amazon launched its members programme Prime Now in Singapore which will allow access to benefits like fast shipping, streaming, and gaming.

Prime members in Singapore can try all of the benefits of Amazon Prime for free for 30 days.

But in what was seen as the first step towards developing a major footprint in the fragmented region of 600 million people, some customers were underwhelmed by its initial limited product categories and it faced tough competition from rivals, such as Lazada. This week, Singapore customers will be able to enjoy Prime benefits including exclusive access to free two-hour delivery on orders over S$40 with tens of thousands of items and unlimited free worldwide shipping on orders above S$60 on more than 5 million items from Amazon US - all available in the Prime Now App.

Today, 6 November, Amazon announced the launch of Amazon Prime in Singapore. Customers used to get free global shipping for orders above USD125 (SGD168).

The Prime membership here will cost $8.99 per month.

This follows news that the American e-commerce giant has ended its FREE AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping service yesterday, 5 December.

Prime members will also be able to access content in Prime Video and Twitch Prime.
