A Computer Science student at IIT Delhi bagged a 1.4 crore offer from software giant Microsoft-highest for any IIT for any year so far- sources at the institutes said adding that three other students from the institute had received CTC packages upward of Rs 1 crore.

The number of global offers that were given to prospective candidates also increased this year to 11 from last year's three, it said.

The software giant Microsoft, one of the regular recruiters at IIT Madras, has increased its pay package up to 40% compared to a year ago for the students selected at the campus placements on day one here.

This year, the institute has seen 114 pre-placement offers being handed out to the students by companies, including Microsoft, Qualcomm and Goldman Sachs, as against 73 in the previous academic year. As per reports, it is said that Microsoft offered United States dollars 2,14,600 to a student, while Uber was ready with USD 1,55,000. The institute expects more than 225 companies to participate in phase-1 of placements, which started on Friday simultaneously with other IITs and will continue till December 16. Due to the special effort put in by the placement team, the number of companies interested in post-graduate and PhD scholars has witnessed an increase.

For past few years, domestic firms have been offering pay packages between ₹20 and ₹35 lakh. ISRO had already gave six offers, thereby taking the total tally to 99, according to a release from IIT-Madras.

Among the recruiting firms were EXL Services, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Samsung Research Institute, Bengaluru, offered more than 10 offer letters during the day, said officials from the institute. The internships for students are facilitated through a coordinated process.
