During his time there, Robinho was arrested after a girl alleged that she had been raped at a nightclub in Leeds.

But in 2014 Robinho sued Italian publication Corriere Della Sera over claims he was part of a sexual assault of an 18-year-old. Robinho joined Atletico Mineiro from Guangzhou Evergrande previous year. He is now with Atletico Mineiro and made his last appearance for the national team against Colombia in January.

Robinho's current club, Atletico Mineiro, declined to comment on the sentence, stating they would only speak through the team's lawyers if necessary.
