Ball scored a season-high 29 points (he also had 11 rebounds and nine assists) against the Suns on October 20 but struggled in the rematch Monday when he tallied only seven on 2-of-10 shooting. As history would have it, the Suns had led the Lakers at halftime in each of the team's first two matchups, although tonight, there wouldn't be a repeat of recent games past.

Rookie forward Kyle Kuzma scored 28 of his career-high 30 points in the second half for the Lakers, who committed 20 turnovers while losing for the fifth time in six games.

One night after giving up 90 points in the first half to Houston, the Suns yielded a measly 53 first-half points to the Lakers while jumping out to a 12-point lead. Then came an even poorer effort against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday when Ball scored two points on 1-of-9 shooting and didn't play in the fourth quarter for the second straight game. He also added five steals. The second matchup was more defensive minded, as the two teams combined for fewer than 200 points.

"We understand that those were two games that we definitely should have had, definitely should have won", Ulis said. "We know what kind of player he is, he knows what kind of player he is and he's going to be just fine".

Truth be told, Ball and the Lakers have bigger things to worry about. In the first matchup, the Lakers won 132-130.

Suns: Host the Chicago Bulls on Sunday. They meet one more time: February 6 at Staples Center.
