Dodgers, Padres Reportedly Will Play Series in Mexico Next Season

The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday the two Southern California teams will play a three-game series May 4 -6 in Monterrey, Mexico.

Today, Major League Baseball and the MLBPA announced that the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres will play in a three-game series at Estadio de Béisbol Monterrey from May 4-6, 2018. In 1996, the Padres and Mets played three games in Monterrey, the first series to be played in Mexico. The newspaper said a person familiar with the matter said the official announcement could come as early as Monday. Three years later, the Padres and Rockies opened the season there.

This will mark MLB's first games played outside of North America since 2014. Major League Baseball's quest for global relevance will travel south of the border next season. He is not expected to return by the time of the Monterrey series. John Coppolella resigned as GM due to the investigation and the Braves are expected to receive some form of punishment for the violations.

The series will be the first appearance in Mexico for the Dodgers. Director of player development Gabe Kapler left to become manager of the Philadelphia Phillies and his top assistant, Jeremy Zoll, took a job with the Twins.
