A North Korean soldier on Monday defected to South Korea via the truce village of Panmunjeom, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

According to this view, the comments were a signal from the Chinese government to related Chinese industries and officials - which were coming across translations of a significant number of reports from the South Korean press predicting an easing of tensions after the October 31 deliberations - that there had been no abrupt change in policy.

The soldier had defected from a North Korean guard post nearby.

South Korea says North Korean soldiers shot at and injured a fellow soldier who was crossing a border village to defect to the South.

About 30,000 North Koreans have defected to South Korea since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War, but a lot of them travel through China.

After being shot, he took cover near a building on the southern side of the JSA before South Korean and American troops came to his aid.

The U.N. military armistice commission said it had informed the North Korean military that the soldier, who was found about 50 meters (150 feet) south of a Military Demarcation Line, was undergoing surgery for his wounds.

Two militants, who attacked a police party, were killed in exchange of fire in north kashmir's Handwara area on Monday evening. Four of his family members including father, two brothers and an aunt were also injured in the attack.

South Korean forces have identified him only as "A" and said the man arrived in the country on Friday.

"His organs are extremely damaged... we do not know how long he can hold up", Lee said, describing the soldier's condition as "very serious".

"But our military is keeping a full readiness posture against the possibility of North Korea's provocations", a military official said in a briefing.

The soldier's successful escape makes only the fourth defection by a North Korean soldier through the DMZ in the last three years, the BBC reported.

Trump is at the end of his 12-day tour to Asia where he's meeting with leaders and addressing the denuclearization of North Korea.

President Moon Jae-in has emphasized South Korea's will to actively cooperate with Russia's plan to develop its Far East region. In 1976, when North Korean soldiers axed two American army officers to death and the United States responded by flying nuclear-capable B-52 bombers toward the DMZ in an attempt to intimidate the North. Medvedev noted that South Korea is one of Russia's key partners in the Pacific region.
