Christopher Plummer says Kevin Spacey situation is 'very sad'

With Spacey facing numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, the 87-year-old Oscar victor will step into the role of billionaire oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, re-shooting scenes with the plan to keep the film's current release date of December 22.

“It isnt replacing. In a amusing way its starting all over again because its going to be different, naturally, ” he explained. "Although the situation is very sad", he added. "Everyone has to do it, Ridley and I talked about this before long ago, so it wasn't very new to me".

The acclaimed actor admitted that it's "quite a push" to have the reshoots completed in time for the film's original December 22 release date in the US.

The hope is that with Spacey removed from the film, All the Money in the World can still make its presence felt during awards season, and maybe grab enough gold to boost box office and help Imperative make back some of the money they'll be spending to make it seem like Kevin Spacey was never a part of their production.

Kevin Spacey was recasted in "All the Miney in the World" after allegations of misconduct against the actor.

The decision to replace Spacey was unanimous among Sony Pictures execs as well as the film's cast and crew, including actors Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Wahlberg, to re-shoot the scenes. I'm very saddened by what happened to Kevin, but what can I do? "That's all I can say, because that's it".

That only tells half of the story, though, as Plummer's involvement really began on October 29 when Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of making a sexual advance towards him when he was 14-years-old. "I admire Ridley very much", Plummer explained to a gaggle of journalists when he was asked how he became involved.

Also happy with his role in "The Man Who Invented Christmas", Plummer commented, "I love that character". Since then, many others have come forward to accuse the actor of sexual harassment, and the 58-year-old was dropped from his prior commitments, including Ridley's film and Netflix series House of Cards.

CNN reported that eight current and former employees of House of Cards, who were not identified, alleged sexual misconduct against Spacey. The actor is pleased with the role, sharing, "I'm fascinated by doing real people".
